Access starts with the route.

  • Confirm a documented ADA model when compliance is required
  • Plan firm, stable access and suitable entry clearances
  • Calculate accessible facilities for each separate cluster

Wheelchair-accessible and ADA are different requests

If your event or project requires ADA equipment, say so in the first inquiry and request documentation for the offered model. The Comfort XL reference is wheelchair-accessible but is not an ADA-compliant substitute. Ask about the documented We’ll Care III or Satellite Freedom configuration and confirm its actual availability.

Start accessibility at the walking route

A suitable unit behind a curb or across soft ground may still be unusable. Review the surface, slope, entry, door clearance, and lighting with the responsible site contact. On an Amarillo lawn, account for how ground conditions may change. Place accessible equipment as part of the original layout rather than in leftover space.

Count each covered cluster separately

The U.S. Access Board guide calls for at least 5% accessible units in covered portable-toilet clusters. Round up within each cluster: ten units require at least one accessible unit; thirty require at least two. Check coverage, exceptions, and the wider site requirements with the responsible authority. These examples explain counting, not approval of a particular layout.

Before you reserve

Is a wheelchair-accessible unit the same as an ADA model?

No. Ask for a documented ADA model when required. The Comfort XL reference dimensions describe a wheelchair-accessible unit and do not establish ADA compliance.

Can an accessible unit go on a lawn?

Review the full approach and placement with the responsible site contact. The surface, slope, entry, and surrounding clearance must work for the users and applicable requirements; the equipment alone does not make the route accessible.
